UNWE hosted a seminar on “Building the EU Anti-Corruption Framework”
Rector Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov opened an online seminar on “Building the EU Anti-Corruption Framework” (The EU Anti-Corruption Framework in the Making) as part of the KA220-HED project of the Erasmus+ program: “Development and implementation of an anti-corruption education program for universities in Bulgaria, Greece, and Croatia (EDU-ANTI-CORR).” The project is coordinated by UNWE in partnership with Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences (Greece) and the University of Zagreb (Croatia).
Prof. Dimitar Dimitrov, who is also the project coordinator, opened the meeting and welcomed the participants: "The topic is very important, and this seminar is a continuation of the work with our partners from Italy, Croatia, and Greece on building the EU anti-corruption framework, with efforts focused on actions against corruption. For years, there has been a vision that issues related to the fight against corruption are complex and need to be reflected in legislation, studied by law students, but also bring together various other disciplines—economics, sociology, psychology—in order to successfully combat corruption. Constant efforts must be made in this area, and I am pleased with the efforts of the Erasmus program. Perhaps in the future we will have the opportunity to discuss the establishment of several local or regional anti-corruption academies in cooperation with our partners in Southeast Europe. It is important that our future activities include not only theoretical but also practical training.
The keynote speaker at the meeting was Prof. Dr. Teresa Russo (EU Law Department of Legal Sciences University of Salerno, Italy), who shared her experience, presenting some considerations on the competence and anti-corruption framework of the EU, the need for its updating in view of the systemic approach, as well as the critical final phase of the interinstitutional negotiations.
The moderator was Assoc. Dr. Atanas Dimitrov, Scientific Secretary of the Department of National and Regional Security, and presentations were given by the project leader Assoc. Prof. Dr. Svetoslav Spasov, Prof. Dr. Anamarija Musa (Department of Administrative Science, Faculty of Law, Vice Rector of the University of Zagreb, Croatia), Prof. Dr. Dimitris Ziouvas (Director of EUROCRIM, Panteion University of Athens, Greece), Emanuele Vannata, Ph.D. in Legal Sciences (Department of Legal Sciences, University of Salerno), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Suncana Roksandic (team leader for Croatia).
Prof. Teresa Russo presented the rector with her book “Enlargement and Membership of the European Union” (Allargamento e Membership dell'Unione Europea).
