Project Milestone: Productive Online Meeting Advances Anti-Corruption Education Across the Balkans

On October 22, 2024, the partners of the Erasmus+ project “Development and Implementation of Anti-Corruption Education Programs” convened for a successful online meeting, bringing together teams from Bulgaria (UNWE), Greece (Panteion University of Athens), and Croatia (University of Zagreb).

Key Points Discussed:

  • Review of International and National Standards

Led by Assoc. Prof. Svetoslav Spassov (Bulgaria), Professor Dr. Dimitris Ziouvas (Greece), and Sunčana Roksandić (Croatia), the teams analyzed current legal frameworks and identified educational needs for aligning national legislation with EU anti-corruption standards.

  • Educational Program Development

Discussions focused on formats (online vs. in-person), key target groups (lawyers and non-lawyers), and topics such as corruption, organized crime, and economic crime.

  • Work Package Planning

The consortium aligned on next steps, including model report drafting, topic summaries, and shared documentation tools to streamline collaboration.

  • Strengthening International Collaboration

The meeting emphasized continued engagement with institutions like IACA, RAI, EPLO, and other regional and international stakeholders.

These discussions are paving the way for robust, targeted anti-corruption education initiatives tailored to the region’s legal and social landscape.

In Context: National Momentum in Bulgaria

On October 23, 2024, the political party Yes, Bulgaria launched a 10-point anti-corruption program, further highlighting the urgency and relevance of our work. The proposal includes judiciary reform, digitization of administrative processes, and a centralized audit environment—demonstrating regional alignment with our project’s goals.

Our work continues with renewed energy and shared purpose—toward greater transparency, accountability, and integrity in South Eastern Europe.
